This is a rare cloisonné vase of tapered shape with cartouches formed as owls on a dark blue enamel ground. The overlapping cartouches frame scenes executed in fine wirework of an eagle flying over turbulent waves, studies of iris, chrysanthemums and wisteria. The vase is unsigned and executed in the style of the cloisonné artist Ota. It is in excellent condition with no chips, dents or restoration. Height: 7" Meiji Period, Japan
