An amusing stained boxwood katabori netsuke of a seated man applying a hot moxa pellet to his leg. Great observers of the natural world and human life, netsuke carvers often commented on Japanese culture and ordinary life, often focusing upon humorous aspects in every day’s most mundane acts. In addition to excellent, sensitive carving, this netsuke has beautiful patina and is in excellent condition. Circa 1800, Japan
