A charming stained boxwood netsuke of a traveling Buddhist monk taking a break from a long journey. Wearing a peaceful expression, the blind monk, garbed in a tattered robe, sits - alms bowl in hand. On his back, he carries a rolled up mat, and for support, bears a bamboo staff at his side. This netsuke is highly detailed with fine modeling and incised work. Overall, the netsuke is in excellent condition with great patina, its incised signature of Kigyoku on the side. Height: 1.5”, width: 1.5” Circa 1800, Japan
