 Sold, many thanks!
A fine sentoku tsuba of modified oval form with a nocturnal image of legendary characters Kanzan and Jittoku. Executed in the katakiribori technique with modeled gold and silver details, the two recluses stand atop an outcrop pointing and laughing at the reflection of the moon upon a sinuous waters. Instead of looking at reality, the two friends prefer to live in their own fantasy world, speaking in tongues understandable only to themselves. The reverse side continues the scene with a gnarled pine covered in gold lichen. This exquisite multi-metal tsuba is in very good condition. Incised signature of Issai-do Nagaharu visible on the tsuba’s front side. Length: 3”, width: 2.5” Edo Period, Japan
