An elegant karamono-style bamboo flower basket of classic form woven in a tight matte plaiting, its double reed handle at the top wrapped with elaborately stitched work throughout. The bamboo strands have been carefully stained a rich color and lacquered - still visible today. However, the basket’s most impressive feature resides along the shoulders with an armature secured at the neck with stitch work and large interlocking knots along the mid-section. Running vertically in the front and back, an interesting and unusual beaded section is the finishing touch. This spectacular basket speaks for the artist’s skill and creativity. Overall excellent condition with minor wear at the top of the handle and inner rim. Includes owner’s box.
