A maki-e tebako designed in hiramaki-e and kirikane with Bugaku imagery of a cockerel and hen perched upon a drum, their feathers naturalistically defined. The drum is embellished with a bold, writhing dragon spanning its length among clouds in silver and gold lacquers. The interior tray within this covered box is designed on a polished kinji ground - with a Noh mask and musical instruments. This fine and rare gold-lacquered tebako is in excellent condition with no damage and no restoration.Height: 7.5" Meiji Period, Japan
