This lovely Satsuma vase with its charming imagery is finely rendered with two panels framed by a gilt T-fret Greek border, one panel depicts a bijin with her dog and attendant, the latter figure carries an infant on her back. On the reverse panel, a child plays closeby as the attendant gathers shells. The seashore, cascading sakura, pine and maple trees serve as a poetic backdrop for this empathic scene. To enhance the imagery , exquisitely -colored enamels depicted in meticulous detail, reenforce the painterly embroidery of the kimono and the modeling of the figures. Ryuzan's elaborate gilt and enamel fan-shaped signature cartouche can be found on the base. This vase is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. (It has slight wear to the gilt on the rims, hardly substantive). Height: 10" Meiji Period, Japan
