An amusing Hirado porcelain piece sculpted as a seated karako sustaining a tall, white-glazed candlestick holder on his bent knee. A fierce-looking dragon wraps its serpentine body along the column-like structure. The boy’s tranquil demeanor with characteristic tufts of hair on either side of his head and billowing clothes provide definitive contrast to the robust activity of the dragon. This fanciful Hirado porcelain candlestick holder is in very good condition, its few visible kiln marks desirable to the Hirado collector. Height: 14” 19th Century, Japan
