A charming blue and white enameled porcelain vase of baluster form exhibiting three rabbits huddled together for comfort. The rabbits’ rounded bodies are rendered in soft, graduating tones of blue enamel perfectly blending onto the white ground. Makuzu Kozan II (Hanzan) signature seal on base. (The rabbit is associated with the folk tale of the "Rabbit and the Moon", a beloved story often portrayed in Japanese art signifying nobility and self-sacrifice.) Overall very good condition with only a small, imperceptible hairline under the glaze. Height: 7.5” Meiji Period, Japan
