A pair of regal silver vases of modified bottle-form executed in katakiri-bori with gilt and silver kaga-inlays. On their smoothly polished surfaces, chidori traverse perilous cliffs across splashing waves below. (The dramatic imagery highlights the small birds’ great perseverance as they fly long distance across open waters, this same motif often associated in Japanese art with the determination of the samurai.) This graceful pair of silver vases is in excellent condition and stamped with the jungin mark (pure silver). Heights: 7” Meiji Period, Japan
