A boldly carved and empathic stained boxwood netsuke of a seated macaque with a persimmon branch, holding her offspring tenderly to her side. (Simians were beloved subjects to netsuke-shi, who carved imaginative renderings of these admired creatures often engaged in various, human-like pursuits.) Signed by the celebrated Tomokazu on nether side. Provenance: Noted collection of Charles A. Greenfield.
