A large bronze sculpture of a robust hare, its features and musculature expertly rendered. Fine incised work complements the powerful representation of the creature’s body parts, emphasizing both the strength and the gentleness of this beloved animal. (The rabbit is associated with the folk tale of the "Rabbit and the Moon", a beloved story often portrayed in Japanese art. This theme was also representative of the samurai code and depicted on sword fittings and samurai accoutrements - signifying nobility and self-sacrifice.) This striking bronze rabbit is in very good condition with minor wear on nether side due to age and use.
