A scalloped Imari porcelain plate with gilt detailing executed in the rich, typical Imari color palette of iron red and cobalt. Its central visual depicts stylized geese in flight over grass and phoenix above paulownia leaves. The plate’s cartouches, over an iron-red ground, focus upon a central image of an ikebana arrangement overflowing with glorious peonies. On the reverse, Hotei’s treasure sacks are rendered in underglaze blue. This lovely Imari plate is in very good condition with minor, expected rubbing to the gilt due to age and use. Diameter: 12” Meiji Period, Japan
