A lovely hexagonal-shaped bamboo basket for traditional flower arrangements in tea ceremony poised on a circular rattan self-stand, executed in a simple yet refined openwork diagonal plaiting. Its strong reed handle is secured to the body with turtle shell-shaped knots, the mid-section adorned with two-toned bamboo slats running across and vertically. Of special note is the two-toned staining of the bamboo strands, adding depth and warmth to the basket. This basket, a bamboo artwork, is in very good condition with only minor signs of age. Incised signature of master bamboo artist Shosai on a star-shaped base.
