This dark, richly-stained wood netsuke of the classic subject of a coiled dragon with a tama (sacred jewel) in mouth is sculpted in great detail, each scale an individual entity. (In East Asian cultures, the dragon is the supreme being symbolic of imperial power, wisdom and success.) This netsuke is in very good condition with incised signature plaque of Yoshihisa, the noted Kyoto School artist. Diameter: 1.5” 19th Century, Japan
