An elegant Satsuma vase of baluster-shape with fine gilt work in low and high relief. Along the neck, foot and sides cascades of textiles overlap in myriads of patterns executed in jewel-like enamels. Two ogee-shaped panels depict an intimate family scene with children and bijin playing in a garden. On the reverse, a Noh dancer, accompanied by musicians, entertains a lord and samurai. The minute detailing and extensive enamel and giltwork add to the brilliancy of this vase. In excellent condition. Height: 12”, diameter: 6” Meiji Period, Japan
