A regal and important 8-piece pure silver tea service. Comprised of a large, handled tray with rosewood insert, its silver corners embrace the overall theme of iris in high relief emerging from flowing, stylized waters - a classic Japanese motif, inspiring many Western Art Nouveau artists. This extraordinary set consists of a water pot on stand with self-burner, a teapot, sugar, tongs, creamer and tea caddy with strainer and bears the jungin (pure silver) marks on its bases. This rare and complete set, ubiquitous in American and European manor homes during the late 19th century, is in excellent condition and is a treasure – in demand now as much as it was during the Meiji years. Length of tray: 22” Meiji Period, Japan
