A shallow Imari porcelain tray of oval form designed with a scalloped edge and traditional Imari color palette of iron reds, cobalt and gilt accents on white porcelain. The tray highlights two large cartouches—their forms unique and highlighted with cobalt accents on an iron red ground with floral scrollwork and medallions of butterflies and kiku. The main visuals show a stylized phoenix flying above a kiku grove and a garden of peonies and fruiting trees. This boldly painted Imari serving tray is in very good condition with only minor rubbing, commensurate with age and use. Length: 16.75” 19th Century, Japan
