A marvelous pair of cloisonné enamel vases of flattened forms with panels front and back showing a lively dragon surging upwards and cranes-in-flight. Characteristic of enamel work executed in the 1870s, these vases are wired intricately in gilt on brilliant dark grounds, the cartouches accentuated by spiraling scrollwork and blossoms of kiku in white and colored enamels. This pair of wired enamel vases is unsigned, and in excellent condition with minimal wear. Heights: 13” Meiji Period, Japan
