A pair of vitreous porcelain Imari fish plates rendered in cobalt blue enamel with over-the-glaze iron red and gilt detailing. On their bodies, uniquely-shaped visuals depict stylized images of chrysanthemum groves, rockwork and splashing spume. The brightly- colored enamels in green, blue and iron red emphasize the beauty of the plates, the modeled accents on the fins and eyes providing a distinctive three-dimensional quality. This fine set of Imari fish plates is in very good condition with minor, desired kiln marks and some rubbing to the gilt due to age and usage. Lengths: 15.5”, widths: 10” Meiji Period, Japan
