A fine woodblock print by admired Parisian artist Paul Jacoulet mounted on custom backing and frame. Entitled “Le Pretre De Sendo-Ji. Oiwake, Japon” (“The Priest of Sendo-Ji. Oiwake, Japan”), the print depicts a finely enrobed Shinto priest in strict profile against a bamboo and metallic background. Known for his eccentric choice of colors and sumptuous appliques, this print features Jacoulet’s preference for silver and pearl-powder (aogai ) on the hat, robe lining and collar. The background is a blend of mica. This original print is in very good condition. Less than 70 impressions. Seal: Peony, Carver: Maeda, Printer: Onodera. Frame: Length: 23.25”; width: 19.5” Published in July 1954, Japan
