A magnificent studio porcelain vase of flask form. The two rondels depict a powerful and dynamic sea dragon in rich cobalt emerging from tumultuous waves. (This five-toed dragon taken from its Chinese progenitor, symbolizes the emperor.) The other panel depicts three koi energetically rising from the sea. MAKUZU KOZAN signature on the base. With original tomobako reading "Makuzu made. Dragon climbing up to sky". This vase is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. Height: 11.5" Meiji Period, Japan.
