A shallow plate by the elusive Satsuma master, Shoko Takebe. A jubilant scene unfolds on a gold-sprinkled ground. The peace-time subject depicts attendants pulling a massive two-tiered cart, samurai officials within. Many of the attendants and officials wave fans in the air. The use of color, gilt and infinitesimal detail conveys a jewel-like radiance, rare on other soft-paste wares. Gilt-seal signature on reverse of plate reads Shoko Takebe in katakana together with Thomas B. Blow in kanji. Overall excellent condition.
