A rare porcelain vase of tapered form with two ogee-shaped cartouches on an iron red ground surrounded by intricate scrollwork. The two cartouches depict breath-taking views of mountain gorges, cascades, pine trees and streams in sumi-e style glazed with rich cobalt blue on a crisp white ground. The Genroku Tominaga signature can be found on the base. (Genroku Tominaga is recognized for reinforcing the beauties of traditional methods of pottery making, especially regarding the unique characteristics of the finest Imari porcelain. He produced pieces of the highest quality and was honored with a “santo shohai” (third place prize) at the 1903 Fifth National Industrial Exposition.) This important vase is in excellent condition. Height: 23.5” Meiji Period, Japan
