A pair of impressive Satsuma vases of rectangular form rendered with delicate precision of towns people and natural subjects on four sides of each. As often seen with this Satsuma master, the populous village scenes depict a traditional Japanese market and contrast the serene nature scenes. Each side is a work of art on its own--fine, painterly delineations of the subjects, gentle color palette contribute to their uniqueness. Ryozan signatures on bases. The pair of vases is in excellent condition with minute rubbing to the gilt, commensurate with age and use. Heights: 9.5”, widths: 4.5” Meiji Period, Japan
