A rare pair of large and imposing Imari porcelain jars on gilt bases consisting of domed covers surmounted by spirited shishi ready to pounce. Executed in soft salmon-colored patterns on pristine white grounds, the vases exhibit pagodas among flowering trees, floral karakusa and winged dragons encircling a phoenix. Additional unique features on these fabulous jars are the boldly formed demon-handles with gilt and colored enamels. These vases are absolute statement pieces and are in excellent condition with the kind of minor rubbing to the gilt expected with age. Heights: 24.5” Meiji Period, Japan
