Benkei, the famous Strongman of Japan, upon returning the Bell of Miidera to its rightful steeple, accepts the giant bowl of miso soup from the appreciative monks. Benkei's attire is adorned with gilt mons of dragons, ho-o and butterflies, all regal emblems, tanto and yari about his waist. The gilt signature plaque of the renowned figural, metalwork master, Miya-o, on leg. This impressive sculpture is in excellent condition. Height: 20.5” (on stand) Meiji Period, Japan
