A poetically-inspired studio porcelain vase painted with an egret perched upon a branch under cascading willow leaves. Pale green, soft blue and white against a beautiful matte cream ground define the gentle mood of the piece. This special vase is characteristic of the finely-conceived work of the respected Meiji artist, Nishiura, and his blue-enameled seal can be found on the base. Nishiura Enji V (1846-1914) of Gifu is notable for soft atmospheric effects created through the ceramic medium and a Nishiura vase in one's collection instantly conveys this gentle kind of imagery. Another example of the artist's work can be found in "The Khalili Collection of Japanese Art-Treasures of Imperial Japan." This vase is in excellent condition. Height: 9.5" Circa 1900, Japan
