An Imari porcelain shallow platter formed as a fish with washes of deep cobalt enamel covering the head, tail and fins. The main visual of lush peony and kiku blossoming alongside a sakura tree is enhanced by the choice of graduated shades of cobalt, iron red with gilt and green enamel detailing. An exotic, long-tailed bird rests among the boughs of the cherry blossom tree. On the reverse, brocades of clamshells and reeds are scattered in under-the-glaze blue enamel. The platter is in excellent condition with no problems and no restoration. Length: 14.75” Meiji Period, Japan
