| This is a rare and unusual green-patinated, bronze and silver vase of bottle-shape. The propitious theme of "the cup runneth over" - illustrated by "the contents pouring down the neck" - is executed exquisitely in detailed silver. A fabulous silver minogame (long-tailed tortoise), holding a lovely copper sake bowl clings to the neck. The characters "kotobuki" ("prosperity") in gilt upon the interior of the bowl and the minogame itself are symbols of longevity. All of these wonderful signs suggest that this lovely vase was a wedding gift for a fortunate couple long ago during the Meiji Period. The vase is signed YOSHIMITSU and is in excellent condition with no dents, scratches or restoration. Height: 7" Meiji Period, Japan | |||||||
