This is a Hirado porcelain okimono of a recumbent horse. The okimono is modeled with incredible attention to the structure and musculature of the horse. In addition, the artist delicately incised the hairs on the mane and tail. The bisque eyes give the horse a more realistic demeanor. For a similar piece please see "Miwaka no Ko-Hirado Yaki" by Noda Tashio. Tokyo 1993, figure 152, page 56. The okimono is in excellent condition with a tiny, almost imperceptible kiln mark by the tail, otherwise no cracks, chip or restoration. Height: 5", length: 7" 19th Century, Japan
