A major stoneware cake dish of rounded- square form, highlit with gilt accents. Its soft color and monochromatic glaze provides a neutral ground for the moriage white and red -glazed kiku buds floating among swirling clouds. The dish is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. Makuzu Kozan II signature cartouche and mark on the base. (Similar dish published in Kathleen Emerson-Dell’s “Bridging the East and West—Japanese Ceramics from the Kozan Studio, Selections from the Perry Foundation”, page 59, No.35) and as part of a published 1905 private collection in Japan. Diameter: 6.25” Circa 1920, Japan
