A charming okimono of a minogame bearing a tama, or the tide-controlling jewel, on its carapace. Executed in silver, gilt and bronze, this small modeled figure of the mythological creature associated with longevity is stunningly incised and chiseled. The patterns on the carapace, the hairs on its long tail and the texture of its rough skin are naturalistically rendered, quite a remarkable feat for a sculpture of this size. This okimono is in excellent condition with no dents or restoration. Length: 4.5” Meiji Period, Japan
