A magnificent rosewood-encased clock with Roman numerals on a white enamel face, its case decorated with mother-of-pearl auspicious symbols inlaid in its border. Lustrous with rich color, the side panels of the box are pierced in T-fret and stylized floral designs accented by a red- silk interior. The brass clock face is intricately chiseled with a Greek fret border and scrollwork intertwined with stylized lotus. Small glass windows on the sides and front and back sliding panels reveal the complex mechanism behind this elegant functioning clock. The clock includes its matching rosewood stand and is in excellent, working order with no damage or restoration. Circa 1900, Shanghai, China.
