This is a good-sized tripodic cloisonné covered bowl of hexagonal form with rounded finial. The faceted body is brilliantly brocaded on the cover and six ogee-shaped cartouches on each of its sides are finely wired with alternating images of ho-o birds and dragons in an extraordinary array of multi-colored enamels. A shimmering karakusa and chrysanthemum ground executed in the finest wiring and enameling techniques completes the imagery on this perfect example of Meiji Period cloisonné. The covered bowl is in excellent condition with no chips, dents or restoration. Height: 7", diameter: 6" Meiji Period, Japan
