| An elegant dark-bronze vase of flared form modeled with scalloped rim, foliate base and brilliantly reticulated band of kiku and foliage around its center. A beautifully sculpt dragon mounted to this band clasps a glass tama in its talons. Worked in high relief with meticulously carved details, the dragon is joined by raised, turbulent waves rendered close by the tail. (The tama is the tide-controlling jewel of the sea). This bronze okimono is in excellent condition with no restoration or problems. A large signature plaque of the Meiji metalworker, Toto Hidemitsu Kansai, appears on the base. Height: 14 ¾" Meiji Period, Japan | |||||||||
