| An exquisite three-tiered maki-e box of lozenge-form decorated with gold-lacquered geese flying in hiramaki-e and kinji in a spiral formation above convoluted clouds. On its lid the theme continues with a full, silvery moon shining alongside the geese. This imagery is executed on a dense maki-e ground with sprays of kiku, pine and grasses in gold and silver hiramaki-e.The interiors of rich maki-e, the inner lid decorated with three butterflies in low relief and the last compartment done in gold kinji. This maki-e box is in excellent condition, its gold-lacquered cartouche of Zokoku and the elephant seal found on the base. (This elephant seal is greatly sought after by lacquer collectors.)
