A Yokohama silver tray with canted corners and upturned handles worked in high relief with iris on a partly-hammered ground. (The iris is a beloved flower in Japan, appearing as family crest on kimono and on artworks of various media. The iris is also significant in the 9th century literary classic , “The Tale of Ise” (Ise Monogatari), which describes the main character’s journey over land and water to reach his beloved). Engraved Jungin mark on base. This serving tray is in excellent condition with only minor signs of wear, commensurate with age. Length: 19.5” Meiji Period, Japan
