A marvelous studio porcelain vase of ovoid form rendered in pastel-hued enamels and underglaze blue. Its image of white lilies in moriage is executed in a naturalistic manner with overturned petals and centers in soft mauve blush. The delicate flowers are positioned against sinuous leaves in gradated blue tones. Kato Shigejyo (Tojyo) underglaze blue signature on base. (Working under the artist name Kato Tojyo, this artist's work ranks among those of his colleagues - Makuzu Kozan, Inoue Ryosai, Toshima Seiji and Seifu Yohei. Kato won the third prize at the 1903 National Industrial Exposition.
