 Sold -- Many thanks!
Here is a fantastic boxwood netsuke of two of the seven "Lucky Household Gods," Fukurokuju and Daikoku, engaged in a humorous Sumo match. Intricately carved and incised, the convoluted form of the piece just asks to be handled and studied, its musculature, facial expressions and positions superb - from all angles. Signature plaque on Daikoku's mawashi (belted leotard) reads MINKOKU. This netsuke is in excellent condition with no problems. Provenance: Francois Storno Collection. Late Edo Period, Japan
