A lovely candy tin by Bentley's of London featuring "ADVENTURES OF RUPERT THE BEAR. SAGE OF UM". The tin is octagonal shape with a pull-off lid. Lavender background. The lid depicts Mary Tourtel's character Rupert and the Sage of Um seated in an upside-down umbrella watching over a herd of unicorns. The unicorns are also featured on the sides of the tin. There is one very tiny and almost imperceptible 1/4" scratch otherwise in near mint condition with no dents or rust. The tin originally held mini fruit jellies. The tin measures 4 1/4 inches by 3 1/4 inches by 1 3/4 inches. Rupert first made his appearance in London's DAILY EXPRESS newspaper on 8 November, 1920 and has remained a popular favorite ever since.
