An official House Of Representatives plate. Shenango Pottery Co., New Castle, PA., circa 1930s or 1940s. See enlargements 7 and 8 for marks. Ref.: "Lehner's Encyclopedia of U.S. Marks on Pottery, Porcelain & Clay", pps 419-427. The mark on this plate corresponds to Lehner's Mark #9 of a total of 266 pictured Shanango marks where it is listed as "early" and which I believe dates to the 1930s or 1940s. The plate features a border design of the Capitol Building within a circular seal motif. A banner or ribbon is lettered "HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES". This plate is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or crazing but does have very light surface scratches consistent with general wear. The plate measures 9 1/8 inches in diameter.
