A beautiful handpainted porcelain plate, Tournay, Belgium, circa 1880. Manufacturer's underglaze mark in blue on the back (see enlargement 9). Manufactured by the F.J. Peterinck factory and signed lower right by the artist G. Poilevin (see enlargement 6). The curved-edge plate has a rose-pink border decorated with swirled gilt lines. The center features a very high quality handpainted garden scene of three figures in period costume. There is one area on the border which has some loss to the gilt (see enlargement 8) but, overall, the plate is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or hairline. The central scene is in perfect condition with no scratches or loss. The artist shows a remarkable talent for both landscape and figure painting. Measures 8 1/4 inches in diameter.
