A stunning example of an ART NOUVEAU buckle, circa 1895. Of curved rectangular form and accompanied by a separate catch. The buckle has an engraved design around the border featuring bullrushes and water lilies. The center is set with a large purple faceted glass stone which looks, for all the world, like a genuine amethyst. On either side of the central stone is an openwork cast brass plaque with a poppy design and set with a small oval faceted glass purple stone. The stones are in excellent condition with no scratches. The buckle and catch are in excellent original condition. The buckle measures 2 7/8 inches by 1 1/2 inches. The catch measures 1 5/8 inches by 1/2 inch.
