A child's blue and white toy plate by Ridgways, Staffordshire, (1902). Marked on reverse, in blue, "Ridgways" with the full "Humphrey's Clock" mark and initials "W.R.S.& Co., England - and, "Scenes From Chas. Dickens/ Old Curiosity/ Shop" (see enlargement picture # 2). Also on reverse is an impressed date mark for Jan. 1902. Embossed border. The plate features a country scene with houses in the background and two figures watching a horse leaping about. Pictured in Milbourn's "Understanding Miniature British Pottery and Porcelain, 1730-Present day; p. 123, Fig. 149. Measures 4 1/4 inches in diameter. In fine condition with no chips or cracks.
