THIS COPY PRESENTED BY SIR HENRY DOULTON (1820-1897) TO HIS DAUGHTER KATHERINE. Inscribed by Doulton on endleaf "To dear Katie/Xmas 1884" (see enlargement 10). The book has Sir Henry's beautifully HAND COLORED ARMORIAL BOOKPLATE on the front paste-down. An early copy with 1884 inscription and copyright date of 1885. The bookplate was added to the volume after Doulton received his Knighthood in 1887. The RARE BOOKPLATE is signed and dated in the plate "C W S 1891". SIR HENRY DOULTON was, perhaps, the person most instrumental in the success of the pottery firm known as ROYAL DOULTON. FIRST EDITION. NCBEL III, 1441.|
