| "BABAR & CELESTE'S WEDDING". A FINE ANIMATION CEL USED IN THE TV PRODUCTION "BABAR, THE LITTLE ELEPHANT". A Bill Melendez Production. 1969. The cel measures 10 1/2 inches by 12 1/2 inches. It depicts BABAR AND CELESTE'S WEDDING CEREMONY. Babar wears an ermine trimmed red robe and his trademark bowler hat. Celeste wears a white gown and wedding veil. The two stand before an arch of flowers and greenery. The TV production was based on the first three of the BABAR books by Jean De Brunhoff (1899-1937). This item is accompanied by a letter from BILL MELENDEZ who states that the sponsor of the production - Viking Carpets - acquired most of the cels used for the production - making this example very rare, indeed. Bill Melendez (1916-2008) started work for Walt Disney in 1938 and worked on such animated films as BAMBI, FANTASIA, and DUMBO. He later started his own company - Bill Melendez Productions, Inc. and was responsible not only for the classic TV productions such as Charles Schulz's PEANUTS but also for the voices of Snoopy and Woodstock.
