AN ORIGINAL WATERCOLOR CARICATURE "MAN IN FEZ" BY ALFRED CROWQUILL (PSEUDONYM OF ALFRED HENRY FORRESTER - 1804-1872). Circa 1850. In a French mat measuring 9 3/4" x 9 1/2" with sight size measuring 2 3/8" x 2 1/2". The drawing is done in pen and ink and watercolor with Chinese white accents. It depicts the head of a scowling man who wears a red fez on his head. Unsigned but identified inside the mat as by Crowquill. Alfred Henry Forrester was a prolific and talented author, artist and illustrator. He sometimes illustrated the work of his writer-brother Charles Robert Forrester (1803-1850) who also used the pseudonym "Alfred Crowquill". The drawing is on artist's board which has traces of paper on reverse. In excellent condition.
