"THE HOG SHADOW". AN ORIGINAL PEN & INK DRAWING BY HERBERT GRANVILLE FELL (1872-1951). The drawing is on artist's board measuring 10 1/2 inches by 10 1/4 inches in a larger mat measuring 13 inches by 15 inches. Image, or sight, size is 6 inches by 8 1/2 inches. The drawing depicts a robed figure standing in a field with flowers. Two other figures stand behind. Please see enlargements for details. Unsigned. There is a pencil inscription on verso stating that the drawing was used as a "tailpiece to The Hog Shadow". There are other pencilled notations on verso as well as directions to the printers, in ink, for reduction in size when printed. I have not been able to locate a copy of the book where this drawing was published. H. Granville Fell was a noted art critic as well as a fine illustrator and designer of covers for "Vellucent" bindings. Note: Chinese white has been used to heighten the main figure's face.
