A shell game set belonged often to the trousseau of a bride. The hampers are in excellent condition and they come with the original wooden boxes. Japan, Edo period. Impressive and beautiful statue of Nikko Bosatsu, the bodhisattva of solar radiance (Suryaprabha). Joint wood block construction (yozegi zukuri)with gold leaf and lacquer. The mandorla inscription says: Bunsei period (Edo), 9th. year, february 9, 1826. The bodhisattvas Nikko and Gekko are the attendants of Yakushi Nyorai, the Buddha of healing.
